History
Asbestos has been widely used in industry for over 100 years. The material was relatively inexpensive to produce was extremely versatile in its applications both industrial and domestic sages, such as roofing materials, flooring, fire prevention and for insulation properties.

What is the Risk? If you carry out any type of maintenance, repair or refurbishment work in a building more than about 19 years old, you could be exposed to asbestos fibres and breathe it in without realising. You may be exposed to only small quantities of asbestos, but if this is repeated often, it can build up in your lungs and you could develop an asbestos related disease later in life.

The more asbestos dust you breathe in, the greater the risk to your health. There is no cure for asbestos-related diseases.
